Residential Trash Service

Residential Trash Service is provided by Green for Life Environmental (GFL). You can go to GFL's Roeland Park page on their website for more information. GFL will pick up household trash, recycling (excluding glass recycling) and yard waste.

If you have any questions about your trash, yard waste, recycling or large item pick up please call Green for Life Environmental at 816-380-5595 (select "3" on the menu for residential service assistance or dial "0" to get an operator). You can email them at  kccustomercare@gflenv.com regarding missed pick ups or other service issues.

Bulky/Large Item Pick Up

NOTE: Beginning in January 2026, bulky Items will be picked up once a month on the second full week of each month. GFL will take up to three bulky items per pickup. Put out your bulky items the same day as your trash pick up.
See the schedule for 2026 here.

It is not required, but it is helpful, to contact GFL at 816-380-5595 or at kccustomercare@gflenv.com to let them know you will be putting out a large item. Bulky item can be put out with your household trash for collection (excluding appliances). You can put out up to three bulky items each month.

Items considered bulky items: large furniture, mattress, box springs, carpet/padding (one room or less and carpet must be cut into 4 foot lengths and rolled up).

The dates will be posted on our website and on the City's Facebook and NextDoor pages.  During amnesty week you can put out unlimited trash bags without bag tags, not to exceed 40 lbs. each. Large item pickup will occur if regularly scheduled that week.  Construction debris is not accepted for pickup. If you have any questions, please call City Hall 913.722.2600.

  • Christmas Day

(Any additions or changes to the above holiday schedules will be posted here and on the City's social media sites.)

Ripple Glass Curbside Recycling Program

Ripple Glass Tote

The City of Roeland Park has curbside glass collection through Ripple Glass. Those who live in a single family home or duplex can place their purple bin at the curb on their first trash day of the month for collection. There are numerous benefits to choosing glass over plastic when shopping at the grocery store including:

  • Glass is 100% recyclable, can be recycled endlessly, and is a primary ingredient in fiberglass insulation and new glass containers.
  • Using recycled glass produces 20% less air pollution and 50% less water pollution than creating new glass (or fiberglass) from raw materials.
  • Recycling glass with Ripple saves residents money on trash and recycling fees through GFL. The more glass diverted through Ripple curbside collection, the larger the decrease from GFL in the trash fee.

Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Reuse Facility

The facility is located at 11231 Mastin Street in Overland Park, off College Boulevard. The drop-off location is open to Johnson County residents by appointment only and allows for the safe disposal of unwanted paint, household chemicals, yard waste, and much more. For 30 years the former Household Hazardous Waste facility was in Mission. Residents can expect an enhanced experience with the new location.

Find more information about Johnson County's Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

The Johnson County facility is open year-round on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and there are two options for scheduling a drop off:

Since its inception, the Johnson County HHW program has collected over 12 million pounds of waste from over 300,000 residents. Although not available right now, once stock is built up, 5-gallon buckets of blended latex paint will be available for purchase. Residents can also shop in the Free Store, once stock is built up, where usable products such as stain, household cleaners, car care products, etc. are free to the public.
