Through work with the Mid-America Regional Council, Kansas City Communities for All Ages and the First Suburbs Coalition, the City of Roeland Park has committed to become a Community for All Ages. The Governing Body of Roeland Park passed Resolution 638 (PDF) to support and promote this program in January of 2015. In January of 2017 the City received the Silver-Level recognition for completing an assessment of the City's progress toward implementing age-friendly policies and planning practices. On April 19, 2019, the City received the Gold-level recognition for incorporating Universal Design elements into the R Park Master Plan and Phased Development Plan, The City hopes to continue this effort with the update to the City's Comprehensive Plan in 2019.

More Information

Part of the City's effort to make Roeland Park a Community for All Ages includes helping residents age in place and remain in their homes as long as possible. The City's Comprehensive Plan - Roeland Park Moving Forward 2040, includes a review of Universal Design and a plan to implement an incentive program to homeowners and builders to implement these features into any new build or remodel. On August 24, 2020 Ward 2 Councilmembers gave a presentation at the Community Forum on Aging in place. That presentation can be viewed here
