About the Roeland Park 'Seeds that Feed the Need' Community Garden
The garden started in 2008 and was proposed by Jane Hurst, who was the program manager of the community center at the time. The goal was simple - grow fresh produce to help feed the people in our community that need it most. Since inception, volunteers have managed the garden and delivered fresh produce to local food pantries weekly throughout the growing season. The garden has grown to 18 raised beds, growing more than 20 vegetable varieties including leafy greens, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions, asparagus, cucumbers, peppers, carrots, and more. The garden also grows herbs, blackberries and flowers. Growing season begins early Spring and goes through October. The garden is located just East of the Roeland Park Sports Dome, North (across the parking lot) of the Roeland Park Community Center.
The Community Garden is funded by contributions from the City of Roeland Park. If you would like to learn more or are interested in volunteering, please email one of the co-coordinators of the garden Dave Short or Jon Foiles, or Roeland Park Councilmember Jan Faidley.
